A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith

I really liked this story. I learned a lot and felt gratitude for how much I have had my whole life. I have never been hungry like these kids were and I have always been warm... I wish so many in our priviledged world could read this and know what its really like to struggle.

Reaching For Hope : An LDS Perspective on Recovering from Depression by Meghan Decker
My review
rating: 4 of 5 stars
Amazingly accurate. Very helpful and does as the title suggests, gives Hope. If anyone just mildly thinks they may be experiencing symptoms of depression, please get this book. It has options, suggestions, guidance, real life stories, and its refreshingly lacking in platitudes... I started reading it quite a while ago and just finished it about a week ago. I put it down for a long time as I found myself interested in other things because I didnt even get to the end before it did for me what I needed from it. It brings clarity to brains that are not seeing things very clearly. One of my favorite things is how well it teaches that depression is a brain illness. Slowly but surely we will take the stigma out of this illness.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran FoerMy review

Wow! I really liked this book. I listened to it on CD and read it when I wasnt in the car. I almost feel like I went through it too fast. Its sweet and interesting and funny and thoughtful. I wept and laughed out loud. Thank you Amy for recommending it to me. It had some theraputic relevance for me, as well. I highly recommend it to all readers.

The Weight Loss Cure They Don't Want You to Know About by Kevin Trudeau
My review
rating: 2 of 5 stars
This is the book that I read parts of and did my crazy diet from... the other info I got is called Dr Simeons "Pounds and Inches." You can google it and find it online. I loved it, I am so happy I did it for other reasons beyond the weight loss. I learned a ton about my eating urges and learned to discern the differences between my cravings and actual hunger. I have never been on a diet before- and this was a great way to just force me/teach me how to eat healthy. I learned to cook a few things too. That is one of the many miracles that occured during this experience! I loved it all and intend to keep up the healthy style living. One thing- just know this book is a bit of a conspiracy theory voodoo drama type. I couldnt take most of it seriously. ESPECIALLY the pharmaceutical industry junk- I know I am biased! The only good info I found in it was the Phase 2 and phase 3 directions. But the diet was awesome-just not the book so much. Am I making any sense?
